As we were coming in to land, flying over the island, I was amazed at how beautiful this Island of Dominica really is. I was at first surprised to see animals that we have in the U.S. like cows, goats, and chickens, but then I realized that it isn't very strange at all. As I was getting off of the plane, I got a closer look at the beauty of Dominica. We went through customs, and came out at the airport parking lot, where our guide was waiting to pick us up in his bus. We took the long route up to the inn, the Springfield Plantation Guest House. On our ride, we got a chance to see some more of the scenery and some of the towns. It took us about an hour to get to the inn. We divided up the rooms and unpacked our stuff. There was a spectacular sunset at 6 p.m. We had dinner around 8 p.m. We were all anxious for the next day's hike up to Boeri Lake. We ended the day with a game of cards before bed.

The Beauty that is Dominica

The blue of the ocean, the mist of a whale,
this seems like it must be a fairy tale.
The gorgeous coral, the colorful fish,
this place was once just a wish.
The beautiful sunset, the unbelievable creatures,
this island truly has amazing features.
All of the red, all of the green,
all of these colors make this place so pristine.
